hhmmm.. Well my favorite episodes are 13 duh, and 7 ,ooooh 11 is good also ,and 1 (where Robin fires two arrows at once). I love them all sooooo much. Its very hard to choose. I'm not sure if i liked 10 because that army guy was so freaky. But thats totally cool if you do.

I think my favourite would have to be 12, because of the sly way Marian gets wounded and, in the midst of the tradgedy, the humour in the scene in the cave when Much watches Djaq trying to revive her.

Difficult to chose. All the episodes in the second half of the series became so excellent.

I wonder, now that its going out in other parts of the world, if the planned Russell Crowe version of Robin Hood, in which he apparently plays a "good" Sheriff, will change its approach. Who wants to see a "good" Sheriff for heaven's sake? I want to see him crushing those canaries!!

wats your favourite scene in the whole of the series? mines probably in episode 13 where they all fight against Gisbournes soldiers and then Will and Allan come to help. i really love that bit and i like to watch it over and over again. Its kind of like the final battle even though it's not cos their all yelling and Much is saying i fight for robin hood and king richard and basically it's just amazing luv it!

Yeah that scene is pretty cool, but still sad because we are led to believe Marian is still dead. I like that scene because Robin now wants revenge and actually kills people, even knocks the Sheriffs tooth out. So funny.
Also in the 13th episode i liked when all of them hide in Marians room when Guy comes in. The whole time Marian is watching Robin,(totally cute), who is on the ceiling.

Some of my favourite bits:

Episode 12: When Gisbourne turns over his hand and reveals the small Saracen dagger, covered in Marian's blood.....

Episode 9: When Robin and Marian walk back into camp hand in hand...

Episode 9: When the girl almost gets into the bath with Much...

Episode 4: When Roy makes the ultimate sacrifice at the Castle doors... (I thought Roy was great. Shame we lost him).

Worst episode??? I hated Episode 10, "Peace Off". It was ridiculous.

10:52 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree 10 was the worst episode.
I didn't like when Roy died because the mom lost him twice and had to watch him the second time.
Oh man, episode 12 really messed with my emotions, you knew something bad was going to happen when the dagger was revealed....and then Marian dies and comes back to life and then dies again. It was and emotional rollercoaster.

i just remembered another great moment...
Episode 8: When they want to rescue jack, and Much says why, alan starts to answer "because i like...", and then Will blurts out "i think i love her." The aukward silence after was so funny.

oh yeah i luv that bit too cos afterwards they both look at each other in shock and roy being killed was also really good and was acted out so brilliantly. i don't know why loads of people don't like episode 10 cos i think it's really good even though it's not that believable but that fight at the end was amazing every minute of it kept me in supense. oh yeah i also liked it when will saw djaq topless in episode 5 it was so funny and then a branch hits him in the face and he falls over. ahhh he's so cute. love him!!

I think Will is cute but I'm more of a Robin/Jonas fan. I think he is gorgeous. He always makes these cute faces, most to Marian. He is such a good actor. All of them are. Will's tear when they think Marian is dead is so good, how did he get only one to fall?

In 10 did you like the assasins?

Favourites & Funnies:

I like those scenes when Much thinks he's safe, like when he thinks John's outlaws are gone, or in the early episode when he thinks the soldiers have gone, only to find they haven't!

Sad:

When Much cries in the bath in the first episode. was it from the horrors of war? Glad to be home? Happy not to be a servant? Sad not to be a servant? It was never really explained, but somehow didn't need to be.

i don't have a favorite saying because most of the characters have one and they always say it. But don't get me wrong i like them, but just don't have a favorite.
But i do have some favorite quotes, for instance that one you mention Amy about the cheese was really funny. (Have you noticed in Ep 4 Roy was mean to Much through the entire thing, not giving him a high-five) Also i liked when Marian talked her way out of getting shot by the boy whos father was killed in the mine. She is so quick thinking and controlled in situations like that, very brave.
My all time favorite quote is "i thought we were saving you." "Now i saving you." "but we are men and your a woman." "irritating isn't it." (when they try to save jack in Ep 8) Because many guys think that a woman can't be good at guy things, or even better, because they are more masculine, And it is nice to see her teasing them.

Laura,
I love that bit with Djaq to. She's great.

LL,
Favourite moment?
Wow, that is such a hard one I'm going to have to think about it.....

I know it would probably come from either the Jonas Armstrong version, or Robin of Sherwood, or Robin and Marian (Sean Connery)....

I'll have to think about it....

In THIS series I might settle for "the kiss", when Robin calls Marian back to his horse. I think in the end it's their love affair which the whole legend is really all about.

11:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh sorry I'm LL and Laura sometimes i just want to be shorter so i use, LL.

I absolutley love the Kiss at the end. Before it happened and he rode off i was like WHAT! they just leave eachother like she did not just leave her wedding for him. And then he calls here name, it was so cute. The way she ran to him was so cute too. that made my entire week, that little moment.

Is the robin of sherwood a tv series? i want to see some other movies of robin hood and just wanted to know the best ones. i never really like the disney version, i think it was the fact that they were all animals.
thank you

Robin Hood- I have a question for you.

Now, I might be missing some huge social reference, but I would like to know where you got the saying that is written above your hit counter. It reads, "Ladies love outlaws like babies love stray dogs". I've been to this site multiple times, and I just can't figure out what it means. Is it y our own saying, or is it from a Robin Hood movie?

Thanks,
Kristen

4:37 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey kristen, i think its just refering to the fact that both stray dogs and outlaws are dirty, but you can't help loving them anyway. it is kind of random though. Personally i like outlaws because these ones happen to be cute and something about sword fighting, and shooting arrows... i don't know, but i like it. okay hurry up and get down here because i have your fries and i got you a pie and they are getting cold.

I love Robin Hood!!!

Laura,

Thanks for clearing up the phrase above the hit counter for me. I have a question for you. What is the name of that song that you and I were listening to in the car with your mom that you said was timeless? The beginning starts with them humming and it sounds funky.

Kristen

PS.Do you think something is going to happen in season 2 to break Robin and Marian up? It seems like the cliched thing to do, and I'm hoping the writers won't stick to tired cliches. I hope Guy of Gisbourne doesn't do anything to break them up!

6:48 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

okay for one thing Guy is definetly going to try and break them up. After being left at the alter for his biggest foe, of course he is going to want revenge, the question is will he suceed. I really hope not, but i do hope Guy dies. Thats really fun to write. Guy dies.
Also i hope they don't pretend like it didn't happen. maybe they will start the next season still in the castle where the sheriff is hanging upside down, because you know Guy would be going there soon to see if the sheriffs plan went accordingly.
Oh my Gosh you need, need, need to see some of the you tube movie montage's(im not sure if that is correct spelling) They are soooooooo good. One of them almost made my cry, and you know im not usually a sap.
Robin and Marian forever!!!!!!
Laura

Do you mean Cannonball, or Mother we just can't get enough? great songs, ooooooo i hope someone makes a montage to Mother we just can't get enough. It would be the best ever!!!
Ugh i'm off to learn how to mop.(sooo stupid!!)

Kristen,

"Ladies Love Outlaws" is from an old country song. And its true. Girls fancy the "rogue", they don't fancy the goody goody type.

And I don't think Robin minded her getting that book out of the fire. Remember he also wanted to preserve the knowledge before it went to a vote. He trusts Djaq to behave responsibly and keep it safe.

Laura,

Yes, Robin of Sherwood is a television series, made in 1984, and was the first time we had a young Robin Hood. It's very different to the Jonas one. More "mystical" in its approach than action adventure, and no attempts by Guy to seduce Marian. It still has a HUGE cult following to this day. I love it, but it might not appeal to modern tastes, especially after seeing Jonas and Lucy.

Robin Hood films: I've never seen the cartoon Walt Disney, nor the "Men in Tights" comedy. They wouldn't interest me. I really like "Robin and Marian" (Sean Connery), because it's the only one that shows what Robin, Marian, and the Sheriff, are like at the end of their days. And I really like the 1990 Robin Hood with Uma Thurman as Marian. In that one, as they fall in love, and the Saxons gradually take back their lands from the Normans, you start to notice that the winter landscape has gradually been changing to Spring, and Robin and Marian marry. It sounds corny, but its done really subtle and clever.

But everyone here will always prefer their own Robin - Jonas - and that's the way it should be. And let's face it, he's excellent.

oh yeah that kiss at da end of the series was so good cos they were like calling to each other and robin on his horse bending down to kiss marian was so sweet and your right bout ladies loving outlaws i absolutely love these ones they're so fit well apart from little john and especially will scarlett he's so sxc

By the way thx Amy, for the luck, it must have worked because i found it. The Robin and Marian movie. It was really depressing, them both being at the end of their lives.:( And really hokey how they reached for eachother when they were about to die.
And their was a little too much Sean Connery leg happenin.
RH, at the begining why was the sherrif to take marian to jail? that part was never clear to me.

They've already started filming for da next series and i don't really understand why friar tuck is so important either cos he's onnly a priest or something earlier on this year it's been said that Matt Lucas would be friar tuck in series 2 of robin hood but now he might not be coz he hasn't really got much time. It's also been said that anjali jay (djaq) may not be in the next series cos she got sacked because she arrived to rehearsals drunk or something like that but i'm not sure about that it's just a rumour thats been going round. i really hope shes in robin hood though cos i think she's gr8 and i wanna see her get with Will

Oh and is the Robin and Marian movie thing any good cos i've never seen it before. well i'll talk to you again later!!!

Oh my gosh do I!! I love them all so much, But Robin is my favorite. My sister likes Alan because of his eyes, i think he has gorgeous eyes too. Will is cute also, i like him because he's the silent serious kind. But Robin is my all time favorite, i think everything he does is so cute.

The Movie is good but sad. i liked it because Audrey Hepburn was in it. She is such a talented actress, but i didn't like her hair in this movie. Also its when Robin and Marian are older, and i like it better when they are younger and have awesome fighting scenes, and killer bodies. There wasn't as much fighting in it cause everyone is old, and there is only Robin, Friar tuck, John and i think it was Will, of the original outlaws. Alan died they said. i think i'd like it when they are younger better.
But nothing compares to the BBC Robin Hood!!!! i love it so much.

Hey RH,

I don't think you answered why Friar Tuck is so important to be in the show?

Also, i was watching Ep 5 the other day and Marian said something to her dad about when Robin left and she was ill for some time.(Does that make sense?) Do you think it was because he left? because in some other movies Marian had tried to kill herself after Robin left.

Sorry if its confusing.

The real Friar Tuck brought to the outlaws a variety of valuable skills:

He would have had the ability to read formal documents and contracts, together with a basic understanding of the law. Bearing in mind Robin's men were people who had had their lands confiscated, this would be essential. England was also a very religious nation at that time, and Tuck would have attended to the men's spiritual needs as well as being a good councellor, listening to the anxieties of men who find themselves prohibited from returning to their family homes. Tuck was also well placed to spy on the officials of Nottingham, probably even the Sheriff himself. And, lest we forget, it was said that even Robin Hood himself was hard pressed to beat the Friar in a sword fight.

There are more of my thoughts on Friar Tuck in the following links:

http://robinhoodtree.blogspot.com/2006/04/friar-tuck-five-favourite-friars.html

http://robinhoodtree.blogspot.com/2006/04/robin-hood-meets-friar-tuck.html

http://robinhoodoutlaw.blogspot.com/2006/05/friar-tuck-gallery.html

With regard to your last point, I don't know of any movies where Marian threatens to kill herself when Robin leaves. (????)

I think our Lucy was heartbroken, and distressed he was leaving England to its fate.

In the movie Robin and Marian, Marian said she slit her arm by the river(suicide), and later on we see her scars.

hi robin, first of all, let me congratulate having such a great blog on robin hood!!

please read below only if you got time and can bear with all my ranting and gushing over jonas, i.e., at you own risk ;)
i am from north carolina, US....and a fairly new viewer of the show (only 2 weeks), but to say i'm hooked or addicted will be putting it mildy...lolz...
i cannot believe i missed such a great show on bbc america for so long (maybe they shud've publicized it better here), and only recently discovered it (starting watching from episode 8)...
even worse is the fact the most ppl i know haven't seen it, so i cannot even share this excitement with anyone else in person :(

i remember reading some stories as a kid, i have only scene the errol flynn classic....but still, i am hopelessly in love with this series....and jonas and lucy's gorgeous and youthful looks make only for better saturday viewing...and i love the fact tht they've taken artistic liberties and made her kick some ass...i've tried to devour as much on the subject, as i could over the net, in terms of reviews, series info, the youtube video songs, episode guide etc. etc...and tht's how i came across your blog....i really don't care if it's not historically accurate and stuff, i just love the pace, thrill, wit and banter in the show....waiting with baited breath for remaining 3 episodes (here, they have re-runs 5-6 times a week, and i try to watch most of them!!)..so many sites had teens ogling over the characters, n i wondered if it was stupid of me, at 23, to be hood, err, hook, line and sinker in love with jonas...but going thru the comments, i hope i'm not the only one...

i also like that your blog doesn't just focus on jonas, lucy, keith and richard...you give each character importance, and every time i watch the episode, i look out for your observations (esply on will and much)...

i've bookmarked your blog, and will keep coming again....also read today tht jonas broke his foot...tut tut....hope he recovers soon as everything seems to be left in a lurch right now...will keep coming again...thnks again for a great blog :).... (and wow, i have a huge comment!!)of

Also did the You tube videos ruin it for you, because some of the footage hasnt aired yet here. There are some really good videos on there though. My favorite on was titled "Robin Marian Trailer". i like it because they actually talk, and it is not just the song playing in the backround. If you havn't you definately should.

Regarding the famous Jonas foot:

For those who may not know, the metatarsal arch is the one across base of the toes. Jonas appears to have fractured the 5th metatarsal, which I think is at the base of the small toe.

It's certainly painful, but not the huge disaster some headlines are making it out to be. It's an injury some footballers get (Beckham I believe suffered), but after proper rest (without a need for plaster), they're out and kicking the ball in no time.

I think the headlines about the series being stopped is too similar to all those dramatic publicity seeking ones about the "stolen tapes" a year ago to take seriously.

Whilst critics are suggesting he shouldn't do his own stunts, the BBC are denying he got the injury in a fight scene. However, I seem to remember part of Jonas's classes as a drama student involved action scenes. (I think I've mentioned that somewhere on the site).

@ Laura: You Laura, are a genius!! I didn't even realize that BBC america was among the on demand channels...watched episode 6 and all the extra footage about actions, costumes, etc...lotsa fun..thnks a ton!!
as for some clips ruining what lies ahead, i saw one where they showed Marian dying, and it gave me such a heart attack that I frantically searched all around to see what happens next!! I don't mind knowing already, and am looking forward to everything with equal excitement, but I'm a bit relaxed, knowing it ends well :)
Definitely dragging atleast one of my frnds to watch it with me...

@ Robin: you're a life saver with Jonas's injury-not-that-huge-news...some sites made such a big deal out of it, that I thought they'll shelve the series or something...thnks for all the related links..

you are right robin, jonas does have a certificate in stage combat (more power to him, though wrong time to use this phrase, as he just injured himself)...and bbc denied in press release that he was doing a fight scene...i guess time will tell what happened and it's effects...praying for jonas's speedy recovery, and that nothing untoward happens to the series telecast...

1:35 AM
Blogger Emily said...

I read or watched in an interview somewhere with Jonas and he said that he was allowed to do more stunts than the others because he had specialized in stage fighting at school.
I've seen several articals touting that it's a big insurance payout (80,000 pounds or something) because Jonas isn't a proper stunt person - but if he has a degree in it, doesn't that qualify him to do at least a portion of his own stunts? I'm not certain these entertainment rags do any research at all.
Additionally, if it is only his baby toe - why such a big deal? I'm sure after a few weeks off he'll be good to go again. Then again "metatarsal" sounds a lot scarier than "baby toe," and "toe" is different than your "foot" (as I first read it was).
It's all in how you say it.
I am sure that nothing will happen to endanger the series from going ahead as planned this far - and BBC is sure as well, as illustrated in an official statement regarding his injury.
They have filmed everything else in this next season that didn't require Jonas for. I would assume that most of what they have left are Robin scenes. There are probably a good deal of them, granted, but I'm sure it can be handled - there's the whole summer ahead.

Hi Emily,

I bet Jonas recovered ages ago. If he was a first division footballer he'd have been back on the pitch by now. I think a lot of what gets said is just for the publicity. A bit like last years so called "stolen tapes".

True, he does have a certificate in stage fighting. But even so, the studios would prohibit certain activities now he's such a valuable property. Back in the 50's and 60's both James Dean and Elvis were prohibited from riding motorcycles (even at home!) until a film was finished.
